Majors

Majors: your path to academic specialization

The Fulbright liberal arts education begins with the broad training of the Core Curriculum in the first two years, and guides you through a transitional period of academic exploration before you select your major at the end of the second year.  This American liberal arts model postpones the major selection to allow you to explore your own interests and experiment widely before making an informed decision to specialize deeply in a subject.

Each major provides a carefully scaffolded progression of courses that grounds you in the fundamentals of the discipline and ultimately trains you to attain a high level of expertise. Fulbright’s majors are based on the rigorous skills training and critical inquiry fostered in the Core, and encourage you to pursue your own intellectual interests with the guidance of expert faculty. You may choose to pursue an additional minor, double major in two subjects, or work with a faculty member on independent capstone research in the final year.

Fulbright offers majors in the Humanities, the Social Sciences, Sciences and Engineering, and Mathematics and Computing.  Many of our majors are interdisciplinary and include a focus on Vietnam, including our unique Integrated Science, Art and Media Studies, and Vietnam Studies majors.  In addition to innovative curricula and exceptional academic training, majors also offer opportunities for research with faculty members, partnerships for experiential learning with industry, and contact with visiting speakers.

A major at Fulbright offers you a portfolio of experiences that prepare you for the future. It also gives you choice and flexibility, without sacrificing the depth necessary to build their expertise for future jobs and graduate school opportunities.

Fulbright graduates have taken their skills to top employers in Vietnam like Boston Consulting Group, MoMo, and Zalo Pay, and have been accepted to MA and PhD programs in the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States.

Fulbrighters will choose from one or two of the following eleven majors. See the individual major pages for credit requirements and further information on minors and capstones.

We offer a diverse variety of academic programs for students to explore during their time at Fulbright. At the end of their second year, each student selects a major and has the option of choosing a minor as well.

Double majors

The spirit of Fulbright encourages you to think beyond typical majors and disciplines. To enable this kind of thinking, you can choose to double major, blending interests from different disciplines. You’ll work with faculty advisors to build a set of courses across major areas that allow you to explore your interests in a thorough and diverse way.

While Fulbrighters are expected to draw on a diversity of courses and ways of thinking for their majors, these double majors will heavily emphasize drawing on complementary areas of study.

Fulbrighters pursuing a double major must complete all requirements for each major. If two majors share a common course requirement, that course can count toward the completion of both majors.

Our degrees

The undergraduate program at Fulbright University Vietnam offers three degrees:

Bachelor of Arts

Art and Media Studies, Economics, Literature, History, Psychology, Social Studies, Vietnam Studies.

Bachelor of Science

  • Natural Science: Integrated Science
  • Mathematics and Computing: Computer Science, Mathematics

Bachelor of Engineering

With a Fulbright degree, you’ll be able to pursue a variety of careers, as a leader, researcher, entrepreneur, professional — and other careers that have not even been invented yet.

A Fulbright degree will prepare you for further studies at top-caliber graduate and professional schools throughout the world.

Voices from our majors

“There is one thing I cherish about Fulbright, that is the environment where you can not only learn for yourself, but also be an integral part of a larger community and learn from each other. I deliberated on Mr. Bellisari’s advice. Life is not about outperforming everyone else. I then wanted to learn as much as I could and support others in every way I could.”
Chenh Hung Phat, major in Literature, Class of 2023

“Learning without “studying”, Fulbright’s pedagogy is not limited in traditional classes, instead, it takes place everywhere, from the Faculty’s room, the shared space, the cafeteria, to the museums, the Reunification Palace and Hue – the dreamy ancient city.”
Ly Minh Tu, major in Economics, Class of 2023
avatar
“All the exercises were not taken out of any books but from the up-to-date reality surrounding Fulbright students. This helped a lot in understanding the concrete concept of economics, especially for beginners, as they will find extremely familiar cases, not just purely theoretical lessons.”
Phan Canh Minh Phuoc, majors in Computer Science, Class of 2023

“Learning about historical events gives me something to talk about with people from previous generations, and it’s a privilege to learn from them. In addition, hearing different perspectives and learning independently gives it a mutual, reciprocal aspect, where I can engage in this dialogue.”
Vu Mai Anh, majors in Art and Media Studies, Class of 2023
