Transforming students into tomorrow’s leaders

The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) was launched in 2013 by the U.S. government with the aim of enhancing leadership and networking in Southeast Asia, focusing on youth leadership development and stronger U.S.-ASEAN ties. A key component to this mission is the YSEALI Academy at Fulbright, which was launched in 2020 in collaboration with Fulbright University Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City. Offering flagship executive education seminars on technology, public policy, and entrepreneurship, the Academy promotes leadership competencies for the future leaders of Southeast Asia. Over the next five years, it will conduct 16-20 executive education seminars, led by regional and U.S. experts, to address regional leadership challenges, foster intercultural and professional relationships, and to equip participants with future-ready skills that will boost their careers.

The YSEALI Academy at Fulbright is dedicated to developing Southeast Asian leaders through innovative and immersive executive education programs. Our goal is to enhance regional comprehension and leadership competencies among ASEAN professionals, and to foster an interactive educational space for building enduring professional connections.

What we offer

Our seminars promotes knowledge expansion and leadership competencies in three focus areas, each addressing significant knowledge and competency gaps within the region: Entrepreneurship, Technology and Innovation and Public policy. These seminars are directed by a lead faculty member from the YSEALI Academy, responsible for curriculum design and implementation.
To enrich the learning experience, the lead faculty collaborates with affiliate faculty from Fulbright, as well as international and regional scholars and industry professionals. This collaborative approach ensures that our executive education is only academically rigorous but offers highly practical skills for young professionals. The objective is to provide comprehensive, real-world insights into these complex topics, equipping participants with knowledge and competencies pertinent to their leadership trajectories and the region’s most pressing challenges.

Funded by the US Department of State, our work extends beyond academic publishing to public engagement through YSEALI Seminars. We pride ourselves on international collaborations with partners like the Asian Development Bank and universities like Columbia and Chicago.
Our research team is diverse, including everyone from seasoned researchers to undergraduate students across different disciplines. We remain eager to engage in new, exciting research collaborations.
