On the afternoon of October 2nd, 2020, Member of the Central Party Committee H.E. Phung Quoc Hien, led a delegation from the National Assemby to confer with faculty members of Fulbright of Public Policy and Management, Fulbright University Vietnam on the current and future state of Vietnam’s economy.
The working group from the National Assembly included leaders and members of the Committee on Economic Affairs; the Committee on Financial and Budgetary Affairs, the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment; the Committee on Foreign Affairs; the Department of Economic Affairs and the Office of the National Assembly. The group consulted with faculty leaders, members and senior lecturers at FSPPM, all leading economic and financial experts in the country. This is the second visit of National Assembly delegates to Fulbright School for policy dialogue.
At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly H.E. Phung Quoc Hien highly praised FSPPM as an illustrious academic institute, not only for producing authoritative policy research on macroeconomics, but also because faculty members at FSPPM actively engage in policy dialogue and consultancy with elite policy makers. Fulbright is a source of evidence-based scientific studies essential to effective policy making and implementation.
The delegates listened to constructive criticism and exchanged with FSPPPM faculty regarding their comprehensive macroeconomics report on Vietnam from 2016-2020. The report, and discussion, centered around recent achievements, realities, shortcomings and bottlenecks. Following the session, a forum was opened to discuss how to shape macroeconomic objectives and targets in the future, approaches to balance the economic targets set in the master plan for 2021-2025, and urgent areas requiring immediate attention.
Grounded in research, the discussion and exchange were supported by 2 studies from Evaluating the economic growth of Vietnam (2016-2020), by lecturers Nguyen Xuan Thanh and Do Thien Anh Tuan The. “Vietnamese Economy: Growth trends and incentives in the long term” by Dr. Vu Thanh Tu Anh and the report “A look from institutions from 2021-2025” by Assoc. Prof. Pham Duy Nghia, Interim Dean of Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management.
