Bio:

Dr Lan Nguyen was born and educated in Vietnam. From 2016 to 2018, she was employed in the Asia Graduate Centre, RMIT University, Vietnam, as a Research and Teaching Assistant. During this period, she conducted several studies on the social psychology of gender, positive psychology and career development.

In September 2018, she received an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship to pursue doctoral research at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. She completed her PhD in 2022 titled “An Existential Inquiry into Vietnamese Women’s Life-Stories: On Becoming a Leader”. Her thesis was nominated for the Chancellor’s Prize for Research Excellence. The nomination cited Dr Nguyen’s significant contribution to the development of an indigenous Vietnamese women’s psychology and the science of psychology more broadly in its ongoing efforts to shift toward a greater sensitivity to issues of cultural diversity and gender.

Lan’s research has been published in several prestigious international journals, including Applied Psychology: An International Review and the Journal of Humanistic Psychology.

Prior to pursuing an academic career, Lan was employed in multi-national and start-up organizations. She has worked with NGOs and several schools in Vietnam, delivering training in career and leadership development and emotional intelligence. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.
