Last Sunday, November 13, 2022, another event of the “Your Liberal Arts Journey with Fulbright” series was held at 51 Le Loi, Phu Hoi, Hue City. More than 200 high school students and parents in central of Vietnam ranging from Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai showed up, creating a vibrant atmosphere on the sunny weekend morning.
The event welcomed the surprise visit of a few parents who called themselves “Fulbright advocates” as their children are current students at the university. Ms. Cao Đăng Ngọc Phượng, mother of Nguyễn Cao Diên Khang (Class of 2025) shared: “Two years ago, when my son shared his plan to apply for Fulbright, I was extremely worried. Partly because I used to insist that he should go to a traditional public university. Also, it was just 10 days before the deadline of the Priority Cycle*. Luckily, my child was successfully admitted to Fulbright and has been a student for 2 years now. Coming to today’s admissions event and listening attentively to Fulbright’s faculty and staff, I can’t help but feel extremely emotional, proud, and happy. I hope that there will be more students from the central provinces of Vietnam can get access to a liberal arts education that puts learners at the heart of the curriculum and helps develop them holistically like Fulbright.”
Via meaningful interactions with the Fulbright’s Admissions and Financial Aid staff, participants from central Vietnam had an insightful morning learning about the university. They also brought home several exciting gifts from multiple engaging activities of emotional check-in, quizzes, and a fun-filled photo corner.
The highlight of the event was the highly anticipated Q&A session with current Fulbright students, among them Actress, MC, Model, and Co-Designer Nguyễn Lâm Thảo Tâm. With a vibrant presence and charming personality, Thảo Tâm welcomed many questions relating to her own experience in Fulbright’s residential life, how to cope with stress, and her career development journey with a liberal arts academic background.
Furthermore, Fulbright’s faculty members, Dr. Trần Vĩnh Linh, Dr. Văn Phụng Trường Sơn, Dr. Ian Kalman and Dr. Khiếu Văn Hoàng helped the audience to learn more about liberal arts education model, career opportunities and two Fulbright majors – Social Studies and Economics among eleven ones.
The event in Hue was the culmination of a series of Admissions events for the Fall Cycle 2022. In total, Fulbright has met nearly 1,000 high school students and parents coming from different provinces of Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnam. These events not only shed light on Fulbright’s liberal arts and majors but also brought faculty and staff closer to the young generation, who will bring in new identities to an inclusive and caring academic environment at Fulbright.
