On February 20, 2023, the renowned teacher, Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam and his family signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Fulbright University Vietnam to create a scholarship under his name. This special scholarship under his name will grant to students intend to pursue Psychology major, as an effort to promote psychology, especially educational psychology in Vietnam.
Remarking at the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam expressed his hopes for a promising future of Vietnam through education and that Fulbright University Vietnam will contribute to realizing the country’s potential: “Thank you, Fulbright University Vietnam, for giving me hope in a new education for Vietnam. I hope this new scholarship will reinforce more confidence in you and inspire the next advances in Vietnamese education.”

Ms. Dam Bich Thuy, President of Fulbright Vietnam University shared that it is challenging to create an environment that values students’ individuality. Fortunately, the “unique” aspect in each person’s personality, especially in younger generations, is being more and more accepted by society and parents. Directing her message toward Fulbright students in the audience, she explained: “You probably understand now why Fulbright University Vietnam has always looked for the ‘unique’ factors in each of you when we go through your applications. These are the elements that have made the educational environment at Fulbright more lively, and hopefully, this will benefit you in the future.”
What connects Dr. Tung Lam and Fulbright University Vietnam is our shared goal of equal quality education to all, on the basis of respect, understanding and assurance between teachers and students, along with the scientific application of educational psychology in bringing about the best, most inclusive and supportive environment for our students.

During the panel discussion following the ceremony, Dr. Tung Lam elaborated on his experience in managing and building in Dinh Tien Hoang High School a team of teachers with concrete knowledge of their specialties and profession, and who are noble in spirit, to then give them autonomy in their teaching approach. Teachers bring their own life experience into the classroom, and give advice from their own “wins” and “losses.” With their dedication, sincerity, and boundless love for their students, they transform “special” kids into exceptional individuals, helping them enjoy going to school, to class, and strive to perform better each day within their own study.
On behalf of Fulbright University Vietnam’s students, teachers, and staff members, Ms. Dam Bich Thuy thanked Dr. Tung Lam and his family for their special gift. She emphasized: “This is the path we ought to take in the power of kindness.”
About Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam:
Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam was born in 1943. He is currently the Chairman of the Governing Board of Dinh Tien Hoang High School – Ba Dinh, Hanoi, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Educational Psychology, Member of the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Union of Science and Technology, and Member of the Standing Committee of the Association of Educational Psychology. With his contributions to education and to various Unions’ activities, Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam was one of 106 intellectuals awarded the title of Outstanding Intellectuals, Science and Technology by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations in 2022. He was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the President of Vietnam in 2001, the Certificate of Creative Labor by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in 1997, title of Groundbreaking Manager in 2006, and the title of Distinguished Teacher in 2010.
