May 21, 2022, 09:30 – 11:30, Classroom 103, Ground Floor, Fulbright University Vietnam

Continuing the Fulbright Speakers’ Series: The World Beyond a Book, Fulbright University Vietnam cordially invites you to an in-person chat about the book “French-Indochinese Architecture, Pearls of Hanoi” with the editor, journalist Tran Huu Phuc Tien.

With a large paper size and accompanied by a dust jacket, the 300-page hardcover “French-Indochinese Architecture, Pearls of Hanoi” is as premium as a “photography book”. Compared to previous architectural publications about Hanoi, the book is comprised of not only engineering drawings but also documentary photos and trilingual Vietnamese-French-English narrative text carefully put together by journalist Tran Huu Phuc Tien, whose professions are both science and articulateness.

French-Indochinese Architecture, Pearls of Hanoi” refers to architectural structures that are deemed “pearls” in Hanoi. These structures including the Hanoi Opera House, the Doumer Bridge, the Pasteur Institute and the Louis Finot Museum may be already renowned, nevertheless, the descriptive analytical methodology, as well as the photo and document selection is far more sophisticated. On the other hand, there are structures, namely the two 100-year-old houses in the 6th of Hoang Dieu Street and the 18th of Ton Dan Street, have yet been introduced to the public until now even to those who are very familiar with Hanoi.
