Demo classes are a signature aspect of Fulbright University Vietnam’s outreach events. Led by our undergraduate faculty, classes are in English and open to students who are curious about Fulbright’s academics. These classes provide students the opportunity to see the liberal arts in practice.
Dr. Naoko Ellis, a professor of chemical engineering, focused on chemistry and clean energy in her demo class. She asked students why we need to wear masks when riding motorbikes in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Then, she had students experiment with combustion and hydrogen energy to look at cleaner fuel sources.
In her class, Dr. Ellis emphasized how students can think about the ways chemistry can contribute to building a cleaner world that moves away from fossil fuels.
Reflecting on the demo class, Dr. Ellis remarked that students are eager to learn, recognize they live in a rapidly changing society, and want to do something about it.
