Fulbright University Vietnam was honored to welcome Assistant Secretary Ramin Toloui from the U.S. Department of State for a focused roundtable discussion on Vietnam’s economic landscape and the burgeoning semiconductor industry. The one-hour dialogue brought together leading experts from both the United States and Fulbright University. Assistant Secretary Toloui, who oversees the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, is known for his extensive background in international finance and economic policy, having previously held significant roles at Stanford University and the U.S. Treasury Department. The roundtable also saw participation from U.S. government officials including Tim Ong, Section Chief at USAID, Alex Tatsis, Section Chief of Economics, David Pemberton, Economic and Trade Officer, and Arthur Chambers, Economic Analyst from the U.S. Consulate General.

From Fulbright, the discussion was enriched by insights from Dr. Scott Andrew Fritzen, President of Fulbright; Dr. Vu Thanh Tu Anh, Dean of the Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management; Dr. Le Quan, Senior Engineering Faculty; Dr. Jonathan Pincus, UNDP Senior Economist; and other key administrative staff.

The discussion centered on two main topics: the current economic situation and future prospects of Vietnam’s economy, and the development of the semiconductor industry, including supply chain dynamics and workforce development. Dr. Vu Thanh Tu Anh led the discussion on Vietnam’s business and economic climate, emphasizing the country’s resilience and growth potential despite recent global challenges. Dr. Le Quan spearheaded the conversation on the semiconductor sector, highlighting the strides Vietnam has made in establishing a robust supply chain and the critical need for skilled workforce development in this high-tech field.

Assistant Secretary Toloui expressed his appreciation for the comprehensive updates and shared his perspective on the importance of economic collaboration and innovation in addressing global challenges. The session provided practical and intriguing insights into the semiconductor field and its supply chains, illustrating not only Vietnam’s capabilities but also the broader regional potential.

This event underscores Fulbright University Vietnam’s commitment to facilitating important global dialogues and contributing to the country’s socio-economic development through educational excellence and international collaboration.
