This call is specifically for applicants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma (Myanmar), Fiji, Sri Lanka, and Papua New Guinea. Announcement for the remaining seven countries including Cambodia, India, Laos, Maldives, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam will be made next year.
Fulbright University Vietnam is pleased to invite applications for the 2024 United States (U.S) Visit under the Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology Transfer Program. This trip is a part of the “Fueling the Engine of Innovation in the Indo-Pacific region” initiative of the U.S Department of State (Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs).
Application Process
Interested candidates are requested to adhere to the following steps:
1. Review the comprehensive eligibility requirements and conditions for application.
2. Submit your application by 5:30 PM, May 3, 2024 (Vietnam time).
3. Check for a confirmation email upon successful submission of your application.
The applicant must not submit more than one application for this trip.
Eligibility and Commitments
The inaugural U.S visit, tentatively scheduled for July 2024, is open to applicants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma (Myanmar), Fiji, Sri Lanka, and Papua New Guinea. One fellow will be selected from each eligible country.
Selected participants are required to complete their commercialization or technology transfer reports for their innovation or technology, along with the program’s survey forms, within one month from the last day of the 2024 U.S Visit.
The participants will play a crucial role in development and implementation of the 2024 IP Summit, tentatively scheduled for December 2024.
J-1 Visa requirements
The applicants must be at least 18 years old.
The applicants are required to have sufficient proficiency in the English language to successfully participate in the program.
The applicant must possess a valid passport with an expiration date at least six months beyond the planned return date from the U.S and be able to provide a copy of their passport immediately upon acceptance into this trip.
The applicant must be a passport holder/citizen of one of the six countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma (Myanmar), Fiji, Sri Lanka, or Papua New Guinea; and be eligible to travel to the U.S if selected.
The selected participant will enter the U.S on an Exchange Visitor (J-1) visa under a DoS program and are subject to the Immigration and Nationality Act, Section 212(e) two-year home-country residence requirement associated with the J-1 visa. Under this and the program requirements, the selected participant is expected to return to home country immediately following the end of trip to the U.S.
Before applying for this trip, the applicant must read and understand all J-1 visa requirements at DoS’s website and be eligible to obtain a U.S J-1 visa for participation in this trip.
Admission Criteria
To be considered for the trip, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Applicants should belong to one of the following categories:
o Researchers: Individuals actively engaged in research.
o Innovators: Individuals driving innovation.
o IP Managers: Professionals managing IP matters.
2. Applicants must demonstrate their intent to commercialize research outcomes or transfer green technologies. This can be substantiated by a letter of recommendation from their university or institute, a business plan based on research results or innovation, or a filed patent application.
3. Alternatively, applicants with existing commercialization can provide evidence such as relevant contracts or agreements, sales reports, etc.
