Professor Malesky’s academic research focuses on economic development, governance, and the political economy of authoritarian institutions in Southeast Asia and China. In contributing to these literatures, he has developed methodological expertise in designing and administering large-scale business surveys and randomized field experiments. These skills have led to opportunities to reach beyond academia and offer consulting and policy research for development organizations, including the Asian Development Bank, United Nations Development Program, USAID, and World Bank.
