A big part of the world around us and our own bodies are made up of organic materials. Such amazing diversity is made possible by just a few chemical elements and governed by several chemical rules. Organic Chemistry provides a study of these fundamental rules and the main types of organic materials – how they are made, how they behave and the roles they have played in both the advancement of our society (food, materials, pharmaceuticals…) and the challenges we face (obesity, plastic waste, drugs…). Through a combination of course materials, selected readings from leading journals, projects, and experiments, students with explore the structures, properties, and applications of organic materials in relation to real-world uses and issues.
