Introduction

Biology as a field is advancing very rapidly and this course attempts to tackle some of the questions that are relevant to the current day and age by providing the knowledge and skills necessary. This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts and principles common to all living organisms and their interaction with the environment. Through the immersive integrated lab, analysis of real datasets from scientists worldwide, and lecture experiences, this course introduces students to the scientific process and production of biological knowledge encompassing how scientists investigate the cellular, molecular, physiological, ecological, and evolutionary processes that underlie life. Students in this course will consider the foundational questions about the existence of life on our planet and evaluate basic assumptions that enable scientists to describe the behaviours of cells, organisms, and ecosystems.
