Introduction

This course offers an introduction to Champa and Cambodian history. As Vietnam, Cambodia and Champa histories are inextricably linked, this course seeks to give students an overview of the history, kingship, society of the two Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms of Champa and Cambodia. It will also highlights their major political, social and religious changes.
This introduction to Cham and Cambodian history will enhance students’ knowledge of pre-colonial and modern Vietnam. It will also significantly contribute to contemporary research interests in ethnicity, ethnic relations and politics in Vietnam as well as in Southeast Asia in general.
