Trang received her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and her B.S. from Hanoi University of Science. Her research focused on developing greener methods to synthesize common building blocks in organic chemistry as well as studying the structure and properties of metal-organic complexes.
Upon returning to Vietnam, Trang worked for a shoe company making Nike sneakers. Her job involved not only chemical research but also sustainable developments such as recycling and waste and toxic chemical reduction, automation, and staff training.
Trang has broad interests in various fields, and she would like to bring this range into her teaching and course development. She aspires to incorporate sustainable development into education to improve understanding of this pressing issue through an interdisciplinary approach.
