Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV) received grant awards totaling $15.5 million dollars from the U.S. Government on June 6th 2017.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, June 6 2017– Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV) today received grant awards totaling $15.5 million dollars from the U.S. Government.

In a ceremony at the American Center of Ho Chi Minh City, the U.S. Ambassador Osius announced the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) three-year grant award in the amount of $7.2 million dollars to FUV.

The USAID award will support admissions and student recruitment policies, help establish financial aid procedures and scholarships, and develop student intake and adjustment programs.

“This is the first USAID grant award to FUV and underlines USAID’s commitment to the development of Vietnam’s higher education system…

It will also strive to ensure that FUV’s programs will be affordable and accessible to the brightest students in Vietnam, regardless of their socioeconomic background,” said Ambassador Osius.

Ambassador Osius also presented FUV President Dam Bich Thuy with a grant award of $8.3 million dollars from the State Department’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs (ECA),administered through Trust for University Innovation in Vietnam, a US-based non-profit organization.

The State Department has had a long history of support for FUV’s predecessor, the successful Fulbright Economic Teaching Program.

This award reaffirms its renewed commitment to the success of Fulbright University Vietnam.

“We are so honored to receive these grant awards from the U.S. Government. It is significant support for the development of FUV at this critical juncture. We look forward to a continuing partnership as we write the next chapter in the U.S. – Vietnam relationship,” said FUV President Thuy.

“It’s important to stress that the United States is proud to be a “supporter” of Fulbright University Vietnam, but the success of this university will ultimately depend on the people and society of Vietnam to embrace, support, and champion the ideals this university will represent.

Fulbright needs the support of the community in order to become the world class independent institution Vietnam needs to meet the expectations and thirst for knowledge that future Vietnamese students are seeking,” added Ambassador Osius.

Fulbright will open its doors to its first Masters degree students this September 2017.  The first incoming class of undergraduate students will begin in the fall of 2018.
