“Public diplomacy” has gained the status of a buzzword among specialists in the fields of communication studies and international relations. Yet, more than 50 years after its birth, the concept still does not have a unified understanding, and still attracts constant debate with regard to, among other things, what lies at its centre and periphery — simply put, what it is and is not. My book presents an alternative understanding about public diplomacy put into the context of Vietnam. It shows that Vietnam has been conducted a particular form of public diplomacy that is both inbound and outbound, largely thanks to the rise of the Internet and social media.
