Education: Ph.D., Duke University, 2019 (USA)
Bio: Dr. Stempniak earned her doctorate in Romance studies (French) from Duke University in 2019 and most recently she worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the French & Francophone Studies Department at Hamilton College. Her areas of teaching and research include French literature and culture in the 19th and 20th centuries, with specific interests in fashion studies as well as visual and material culture. She has published widely on fashion, literature, and the body in journals such as French Historical Studies, Dix-neuf and Nineteenth-Century French Studies. Her latest article on the relationship between fashion, gender, and political power in Emile Zola’s novel Son Excellence Eugène Rougon will appear in Spring 2023 in Dix-neuf.
