As artificial intelligence and emerging technologies continue to redefine how people learn, work, and create value, Fulbright University Vietnam has officially appointed Dr. Tran Vinh Linh as Dean of Undergraduate Studies, effective June 1, 2026.

As one of Fulbright’s founding undergraduate faculty members, Dr. Tran Vinh Linh will lead the University’s next phase of development — one in which interdisciplinary education not only helps students adapt to the future, but empowers them to shape it.

An Educator Who Grew Alongside Fulbright

Dr. Tran Vinh Linh joined Fulbright in 2020 as a faculty member in Applied Mathematics and has been deeply involved in building the University’s undergraduate program from its earliest years. Over the past five years, he has contributed not only through teaching and research, but also through helping shape Fulbright’s academic foundation, faculty community, and institutional systems.

Before joining Fulbright, Dr. Linh taught and conducted research at several internationally recognized institutions, including Yale University, the University of Washington, and the International University – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Rutgers University (USA) in 2011, specializing in applied mathematics, random graph theory, and random matrix theory.

In previous academic leadership roles at Fulbright, Dr. Linh led the recruitment of more than 20 full-time faculty members across 11 majors — nearly doubling the size of the faculty within a single year. He also played a key role in developing academic policies, advancing interdisciplinary curriculum design, and improving systems that support student learning experiences.

Beyond research and academic administration, Dr. Linh is also the founding architect of Fulbright’s Applied Mathematics major, now one of the University’s most popular programs. He has mentored and supported students pursuing graduate studies at leading institutions worldwide, including the National University of Singapore (NUS), the University of Illinois, Purdue University, and other internationally recognized universities.

Interdisciplinary Education in the Age of AI

Commenting on the appointment, Dr. Dinh Vu Trang Ngan, President of Fulbright University Vietnam, shared:

“Dr. Tran Vinh Linh brings to this role academic depth, operational experience, and a deep understanding of students, families, and the evolving educational landscape in Vietnam. In the age of AI, Fulbright’s interdisciplinary educational model is not becoming less relevant — it is becoming more essential than ever.”

According to Dr. Linh, the rapid advancement of AI does not diminish the importance of liberal arts education. Instead, it further highlights the need for critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to connect knowledge across disciplines.

In his new role, one of Dr. Linh’s central priorities is integrating AI into the entire academic experience at Fulbright — not as an additional tool, but as an essential component of future higher education.

This vision will be implemented across three levels:

  • advancing AI literacy and ethics among students;
  • supporting faculty in integrating AI into interdisciplinary teaching and research;
  • fostering collaborative innovation through the Fulbright AI Institute.

Dr. Tran Vinh Linh explained:

“Our plan is not simply to ‘add’ AI to the curriculum. Fulbright students must learn to use AI effectively and responsibly — while also becoming individuals who shape how AI is applied in society through critical thinking and ethical reasoning.”

Alongside AI competencies, Fulbright remains committed to cultivating “Human-Only Skills” — uniquely human capabilities such as critical thinking, creativity, cross-cultural communication, collaboration, and complex problem-solving.

“As AI automates more routine tasks, we want Fulbright students not only to adapt to the future — but to actively shape it,” Dr. Linh emphasized.

Preparing a New Generation of Global Citizens

The appointment of Dr. Tran Vinh Linh reflects Fulbright’s long-term commitment to building a higher education model aligned with the realities of a rapidly evolving world — one where students are equipped not only with disciplinary expertise, but also with lifelong learning capabilities, interdisciplinary thinking, and responsible leadership.

In a world where the boundaries between technology, science, business, and the humanities are increasingly interconnected, Fulbright aims to educate individuals who can bridge knowledge across fields, adapt to change, and create meaningful impact for Vietnam and the global community.
