Lâm Vũ An, a talented and passionate Class of 2025 student at Fulbright University Vietnam, leads the Fulbright Digital Humanities Lab (DHLab@Fulbright) – Vietnam’s first digital humanities research group. Driven by intellectual curiosity, An brings digital humanities – the application of digital technologies to explore new perspectives in humanities – from global contexts to Vietnam, creating innovative approaches to education and research. Under his leadership, DHLab@Fulbright has become a vibrant academic space where students and scholars explore, experiment, and develop digital humanities projects.

At DHLab, technology enhances humanities research and creation. The lab’s flagship project, Braille Music Access, has developed a free digital music library that opens the world of music to the visually impaired community. This award-winning initiative demonstrates how technology can address social challenges effectively.

An’s dedication to learning and innovation continues to strengthen digital humanities at Fulbright while building bridges with academic communities both in Vietnam and internationally.

As head of Vietnam’s first digital humanities research group at Fulbright University Vietnam,

Lâm Vũ An combines his passion for learning with a vision to integrate humanities and digital technology, expanding educational and research horizons.

Through his enthusiasm and pioneering spirit, An has fostered digital humanities at Fulbright while creating opportunities for interdisciplinary, socially impactful projects.

Under An’s guidance,

DHLab@Fulbright explores humanities through technology, from historical data analysis to digital literary studies. The lab serves as both a research hub and a bridge between academic disciplines, offering students hands-on experience with innovative approaches.

The lab’s Braille Music Access project exemplifies its impact, creating a Braille music library of Vietnamese songs for visually impaired users. Led by An’s coordination and team effort, the project earned recognition at the RMIT Accessibility Design Competition 2024, showing how technology can make education, especially music, more accessible.

Beyond research,

DHLab@Fulbright provides a collaborative space where students and researchers explore how digital technology transforms approaches to history, literature, and sociology. The lab’s success reflects both individual initiative and collective creativity.

DHLab@Fulbright’s academic initiatives include the “Vệt Số Zèng” workshop with FPT students, focusing on digital cultural heritage preservation, and the Digital Humanities workshop, which convenes experts to discuss technology’s role in humanities research. These programs foster technological integration in research while strengthening academic connections, advancing digital humanities in Vietnam.

An’s exchange program at Chengchi University, Taiwan,

broadened his perspective and created new collaboration opportunities. There, he engaged with experts in humanities, technology, and funding agencies to explore possibilities for DHLab@Fulbright. This experience enhanced both his academic knowledge and international network in digital humanities development.

An describes his Fulbright journey with one word: “Understanding.” The university has revealed a multidimensional world where diverse perspectives and differences are valued and understood.

An’s commitment to exploration and application of new knowledge continues to advance digital humanities at Fulbright, fostering connections with academic communities across Vietnam and beyond.
