Education is a crucial foundation to shape and nurture Vietnamese identity for young people in an age of globalization

The role of education in cultivating identity among the youth is gradually changing. Nurturing Vietnamese identity today is not only about preserving heritage or inspiring national pride, but also about affirming one’s capacity to integrate into a multidimensional world.

“The first change must come from our perspective. In the past, identity education emphasized the ‘collective’ of the nation; today, it must expand to respect the ‘individual’ — each person embodies a unique expression of Vietnamese identity. Education, therefore, should encourage dialogue, reflection, and creativity — enabling students to ‘understand Vietnam’ through their own lived experiences, not just through theoretical knowledge,” shared Dr. Nguyen Nam, Founding faculty member and one of the key lecturers in Vietnam Studies major at Fulbright University Vietnam.
