Bio:
Dr. Nathan Gehlert is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Fulbright University Vietnam. A Licensed Professional Counselor with a Ph.D. from Loyola University Maryland, he brings more than 18 years of clinical, teaching, and consulting experience to his work.
His scholarship and pedagogy focus on positive psychology, motivation, environmental psychology, and multicultural counseling. He is also Associate Editor of the Fulbright Chronicles, the peer-reviewed publication featuring the work of Fulbright Scholars. Dr. Gehlert has been engaged in Vietnam’s emerging psychology landscape since 2015, contributing to the development of psychology education and training across universities throughout the country.
Before joining Fulbright, Dr. Gehlert served at John Carroll University in the United States, where he chaired the Department of Counseling and established the Integrated Behavioral Health specialization, supported by $1.3 million in federal grant funding from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. As a Fulbright U.S. Scholar (2022–2023), he contributed to advancing psychology education through collaborations with Fulbright University Vietnam and the Vietnam National University, helping bridge U.S. and Vietnamese contexts in teaching, research, and professional development.
Outside of the University, Dr. Gehlert’s passion for culture, nature, and food has taken him to 48 countries and 49 U.S. states. As an adventurer, he’s an avid paragliding and paramotor pilot. He is also particularly drawn to the solitude of the wilderness and is an avid backpacker.
