Nguyen Thanh Ha, a Fulbright’s first-year student, has just received commendation from the United Nations for her contributions to efforts in building the environment, combating child malnutrition, and promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. In 2023, Thanh Ha excellently represented Vietnam and was crowned Miss Eco International, surpassing over 64 strong competitors around the world.

A diligent term with activities contributing to the environment

Throughout her term as Miss Eco International, Thanh Ha frequently appeared at many environmental hotspots in Vietnam, especially her hometown – Ben Tre province. Specifically, Thanh Ha had projects to call for and support the people of Ben Tre when they fell into a period of water shortage due to saline intrusion and participated in trips to donate books to vulnerable students in areas devastated by Typhoon Yagi.

She is also the person who implemented three “green” projects that created a positive effect on joining hands to protect the environment for society, which are: the Mekong Green Arms project to support training and provide knowledge for women in the Mekong Delta; the Startup Arms project to equip more soft skills for students to adapt to the new working environment after graduation; and the Community English project to organize free English classes for people in Ho Chi Minh City. In particular, the cost of implementing the project, more than 1 billion VND, was taken from Thanh Ha’s prize money.

In an interview with the Thanh Niên newspaper, Thanh Ha confided that in addition to projects that contribute positively to the environment, she also hopes that in the future she will have more projects to support education for children: “For me, doing social impact activities is not a responsibility but a joy, so I feel comfortable committing to that.” – she shared.

Thanh Ha launches the painting contest “Green City – Beautiful as in a Painting”

Moving into 2025, in addition to projects and initiatives to raise awareness of environmental protection that have been and are being implemented, Thanh Ha has recently officially launched the painting contest Green City – Beautiful as in a Painting, for primary and secondary school students in Ho Chi Minh City.

The contest is a useful playground to educate and promote awareness of environmental protection; inspire creativity and love of nature for students. In particular, the contest encourages them to draw about natural landscapes, ecological conservation, green living habits that they practice. The works can discuss behaviors that harm the environment, natural landscapes, ecosystems, biodiversity and community health.

“Stories about clean rivers, blue skies or calls to limit the use of disposable plastic, criticizing the act of cutting down green trees… bring hope for a brighter future. The innocent but emotional drawings of the children are a profound testament to their love of nature. It is also a heartfelt call to everyone, let’s join hands to protect our living environment” – Thanh Ha said at the launching ceremony of the contest.
