Profile:
Dr. Nguyen Dao Tung was born in Hai Phong, Vietnam. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2021. Following this, he was a postdoctoral scholar at Texas A&M University from 2021 to 2024. He held another postdoctoral position at UCLA from 2024 to 2026.
His research interests lie at the intersection of mathematical biology, nonlinear dynamical systems, network science, and stochastic processes. In particular, he is interested in exploring the connection between network structure and the dynamics of complex systems arising from biology, chemistry, ecology, and epidemiology. He is also working to develop the mathematical foundations of chemical computing, which involves the idea of using biochemical reaction systems to carry out a wide range of computational tasks.
Besides conducting research, Tung has a strong passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. He puts great effort into designing courses and creating inclusive learning environments where students from any background can enjoy and appreciate mathematics. He has also mentored several undergraduate students on projects that use mathematical modeling to explore interesting phenomena such as the extinction of languages or the spread of epidemic disease in indoor environments.
