
The Fourth Industrial Revolution, driven by the rapid advancements in technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and automation, is creating an urgent demand for higher education to adapt to the constant changes in the global labor market.
According to the World Economic Forum (2023), by 2028, 23% of job skills will evolve, and 2% of current jobs will be eliminated due to the impact of AI and automation. Similarly, McKinsey’s 2017 report predicts that by 2030, approximately 375 million workers worldwide will need to learn new skills to adapt to these transformations.
Currently, higher education in Vietnam remains focused on specialized training. However, the 4.0 era requires workers to go beyond expertise, embracing interdisciplinary thinking, critical thinking, soft skills, and flexibility to address the challenges of a rapidly changing job market.
The liberal arts education model is gradually becoming a trend and is increasingly prevalent in Vietnam. According to the Association of American Colleges and Universities, liberal arts education equips learners with the ability to navigate complexity, diversity, and change while enhancing individual critical thinking skills. The advantages of liberal arts education in the 4.0 era include fostering critical and creative thinking, interdisciplinary skills, and lifelong learning and adaptability.
