Fulbright University Vietnam is independent of the Fulbright Scholarship Program

In light of recent confusion online, Fulbright University Vietnam wishes to clarify that it is independent of the Fulbright scholarship program run by the United States Department of State.

Founded in 2016, Fulbright University Vietnam is Vietnam’s first private, not-for-profit liberal arts university, with a mission to educate the next generation of entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, intellectuals, and artists shaping the future of Vietnam.

Although Fulbright is an independent institution, the university benefits from the strong support of the Vietnamese and US governments. We are proud to bear the name Fulbright, in honor of Senator J. William Fulbright and in recognition of the special role that the Fulbright family of academic exchange programs played in the normalization of relations between Vietnam and the United States.

However, we are completely independent of the Fulbright scholarship program which in Vietnam is run by the US Embassy in Hanoi. Recent developments concerning the Fulbright Program board in the U.S. do not affect the university, our academic programs or our strategic direction.

We continue to pursue our goal of creating transformative educational programs that prepare our students for lives of professional and personal achievement.

We are deeply grateful to all parents, students, prospective applicants, partners and members of our community for their continued trust and support for Fulbright’s commitment to serving Vietnamese society through teaching, research, and community engagement.
