Peter James O’Donnell

Peter James (“Jamie”) O’Donnell is a businessman and investor based in Hong Kong, where he has lived since moving there from the United States in 1988. He is a citizen of the United States and a Permanent Resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.

Mr. O’Donnell is a Managing Director and co-founder of UCL Asia Limited, an investment holding company which, among other activities, oversees the private equity investment activities of UCL Asia Partners, LP a private equity fund which counts leading institutional investors, endowments and family offices from around the world among its limited partners.

UCL’s private equity strategy has always been to make a limited number of focused investments in regional operating companies and to grow such over time, with minimal balance sheet risk, into world-class businesses. This strategy has resulted in providing attractive long-term returns for its investors and the development of many successful companies and management teams across Asia.

Mr. O’Donnell is also a co-founder and Director of The Genomic Trust, an entity seeking to meld the integration of the critical issues of personal privacy, data management and advances in health as developments in genomics drive tremendous amounts of knowledge and change within society. Prior to co-founding UCL Asia in 1999 Mr. O’Donnell was a Director at General Oriental Investments Limited, the industrial holding company of the late Sir James Goldsmith.

Prior to this he worked for at Bankers Trust Company, a NY-headquartered money center bank, where in his last role there he started and directed the bank’s private equity investment operations in Asia. Since 2010 Mr. O’Donnell has also worked with EXOR S.p.A., advising that company and its CEO/Chairman, Mr. John Elkann, on investment opportunities both in Asia and around the world.

Mr. O’Donnell has served as a Director of numerous companies based around Asia and currently serves as Vice Chairman and board member of Singer Asia Limited, the leading consumer durables and consumer finance provider in several countries in Southeast and South Asia.

Mr. O’Donnell has long been active in educational issues and affairs in Asia and served from 2009 to 2014 as a member of the Board of Managers of Hong Kong International School, one of the oldest international schools in Asia and the largest such in Hong Kong.

Mr. O’Donnell is an alumnus of both Harvard College (AB with honors in History & Literature, 1984) and of Harvard Business School (MBA, 1991).
